Willie Peters outlines Hull KR’s top four ambitions

Willie Peters insists Hull KR will not get carried away with their impressive start to the season, but has made no secret of their ambitions to be a top four club.

The Robins are currently sat third in the Super League table after winning seven of their first 10 games under the Peters era.

Their latest win came in a hard-fought 12-7 battle at Castleford on Friday night, with second half tries coming from Corey Hall and Matt Parcell.

Speaking after the game, Peters was adamant he wasn’t going to talk about possible silverware, but wants his club to have a long-term vision of being a consistent, top club.

He said: “We’re not going to talk about winning silverware but we want to be a top four club.

“Being there now doesn’t make us a top-four club – we need to be there at the end of the year, then you need to do it again and again.

“I always said that after round 10 you see trends in teams and individuals.

“It’s probably around this time now and we’re starting to show we’ve got a style that we want to play and I thought we played that in the second half.”

Willie Peters happy to win ugly

It wasn’t the best performance we’ve seen from the Robins on Friday night, but they got the two points, and ultimately, that’s all that matters in the grand scheme of things.

Peters added: “You’re not always going to get silky performances that are perfect and we were far from perfect tonight, but these are the ones you want to win.

“I thought in the first half, Cas beat us in pretty much every area. They were more physical than us and it was lucky for us that we were only 6-0 down at half-time.

“I was happy with that but I was most pleased in the second half with how we adjusted and got back to being the team we are. To come here and win is always difficult, we knew it was going to be tough tonight and it was.”

Next up for Hull KR is a home clash with Huddersfield in a fortnight, with the international break next week.
