Federico Valverde: Liverpool told they already have better options

18:04 , Jonathan Gorrie

Liverpool have been strongly linked with a move for Real Madrid star Federico Valverde all summer.

Still, Jurgen Klopp has since been told he already has TWO better options in the middle of the park.

Speaking to ESPN, former Anfield hero Steve Nicol said: “Listen, Valverde’s not getting let go from Real Madrid because he’s that great. If Real Madrid are prepared to let him go, it tells you that they don’t think he’s the future.

“Liverpool have just signed Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, they already have Fabinho, Henderson’s still around for another year.

“Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott, two young guys, particularly Elliott, who will play. Does he start before Szoboszlai? No. Does he start before Mac Allister? No.

“So, if you’re Valverde, you’re going to be thinking about that as well. Thiago’s still there. So if I’m Valverde, I’m thinking, number one, they’re [Real Madrid] prepared to let me go. Two, do I start [at Liverpool]?”

“I’ve asked Paulo Dybala if it’s true that he’s coming to Chelsea but he didn’t answer! He’s a top player, he’d be a massive signing for us — I’d like it,” Silva said, per Fabrizio Romano.

Pochettino fires new warning to Chelsea stars

13:19 , George Flood

Mauricio Pochettino is planning individually-tailored training plans to help get the best out of a number of Chelsea’s expensive underperforming stars this summer.

However, the new Blues boss has also warned that there will be no excuses for the club’s biggest names to fail to deliver in future under his guidance.

Pochettino plans to sit down and speak with Mykhailo Mudryk, who has recently been on duty at the European Under-21 Championship with Ukraine.

The winger struggled notably for form in the aftermath of his dramatic £88.5million switch from Shakhtar Donetsk to Chelsea in January, having initially looked set to join Arsenal, though his new boss is eager to help him reach the required level for next season.

Pochettino planning Dele Alli talks

11:52 , George Flood

New Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino says he is hoping to reach out to Dele Alli in an attempt to help revive his stalled career.

Once an indispensable figure for both Tottenham and England from a young age, Dele has been on a rapid downward trajectory over recent years amid major issues with both form and fitness.

Having failed to settle at Everton following a £40million transfer from Spurs, where he had gone from being one of the first names on the teamsheet to surplus to requirements, on deadline day in January 2022, the midfielder continued to struggle notably last season during a disastrous loan spell with Turkish giants Besiktas amid more questions over his commitment.

Dele played only 13 times in Istanbul and saw his temporary stint cut short in April due to a hip injury that required surgery, returning to Everton for rehabiliation as he hopes to prove himself to current Toffees boss Sean Dyche.

Pochettino planning talks over Colwill’s Chelsea future

10:49 , George Flood

Mauricio Pochettino is planning to sit down for talks with Levi Colwill regarding his future at Chelsea.

The Blues academy graduate’s stock has continued to rise significantly this summer following an impressive season-long loan spell at Brighton last term after he was a key performer in an England defence that did not concede a single goal en route to winning the European Under-21 Championship in Georgia.

Colwill gave away a last-gasp penalty in yesterday’s feisty final against Spain in Batumi, but was indebted to Burnley-bound Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford for a fantastic double save that preserved a 1-0 victory in the dying moments.

Noni Madueke promised Chelsea fans on Instagram after the final that he would “make sure” Colwill came back to Chelsea with him, though speculation over his future continues amid interest in a permanent deal from Brighton and apparently also the likes of Liverpool.

Pochettino has since confirmed that Colwill – along with Madueke – will be joining Chelsea on their pre-season tour of the United States next week.

Providing another update on the centre-back’s future since then, Pochettino said: “First of all, I need to understand him.

“I need to hear what he has in his mind. What he expects. And then, of course, for him to listen to what I expect from him.”

Bayern Munich set to table new Harry Kane offer

09:37 , George Flood

Bayern Munich are reportedly poised to submit their next offer for Harry Kane.

The reigning Bundesliga champions have already seen one bid for the England captain knocked back by Tottenham this summer.

But Bayern are undeterred and The Mail on Sunday report they are now due to table an improved proposal for Kane – Thomas Tuchel’s No1 transfer target – that could be worth almost £70m with add-ons.

However, that is said to be at the “upper end” of what Bayern are willing to pay for a player with only 12 months left on his current contract and not nearly enough to convince Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy to sell.

Kane is due to return to pre-season training at Spurs this week, when he will hold crunch talks with chairman Levy and manager Ange Postecoglou.

Tottenham want Cucurella as Perisic replacement

09:11 , George Flood

Tottenham are also being very tentatively linked with Marc Cucurella at Chelsea this weekend.

The Blues have been looking to offload the Spanish left-back this summer just one year after his £63m switch from Brighton following a dreadful first season in which he struggled badly for form and was even booed by his own fans.

Chelsea have sought potential buyers in Saudi Arabia amid interest from Atletico Madrid, though Standard Sport reported on Friday that Cucurella was discouraging potential moves as he wants to fight for his future under new boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Football Transfers now claim that Spurs are closely monitoring Cucurella’s situation and are ready to bring him in as a replacement for Ivan Perisic, who looks likely to leave London himself in this window after only one year.

But they won’t stop there, with Sky Sports in Germany reporting that they now are competing with Serie A champions Napoli for the signing of versatile Borussia Monchengladbach defender Itakura.

Colwill took to Instagram while celebrating England’s win over Spain, with Madueke joining him and taking the opportunity to send a message to the Chelsea fans.

Christian Pulisic is set to join AC Milan, with the deal all but confirmed.

That’s according to Gianluca Di Marzio, who claims the official word is all that’s left.

Chelsea are expected to pocket around £19million for the American, despite Lyon bidding more as Pulisic rejected the French side.

Pochettino quizzed on Harry Kane bid

Friday 7 July 2023 22:33 , Alex Young

Mauricio Pochettino hasn’t ruled out signing a striker this summer and was asked whether Chelsea would enter the race for Harry Kane.

Chelsea’s lack of goals was a huge problem last season as they recorded their lowest-ever tally in the Premier League era, scoring just 38 times in 38 matches. The Blues toiled under four different managers and ultimately finished 12th.

To get the club back on track, Pochettino must find goals in his rapidly reassembled squad, either through coaching or in the transfer market this summer.

Chelsea have already signed two forwards in Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig and Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal, but Pochettino did not rule out adding another striker once he has assessed his squad in pre-season.
