Springboks v Ireland takes to the streets as fans face off in Paris : PlanetRugby

After a gripping Rugby World Cup meeting between South Africa and Ireland at the Stade de France, there was also an epic fan battle on the streets of Paris.

Due to the light it looks as though this hilarious face-off took place before the pool showdown that Ireland would go on to win 13-8 in that brutal 80 minutes.

Mack Hansen’s try and extra points from Johnny Sexton and Jack Crowley helped the Irish to victory that leaves them top of the pile with a game to go.

Defeat in Paris

The Boks meanwhile can only hope that Scotland do them a big favour against Andy Farrell’s side if they are to finish at the summit, thus likely avoiding France.

Currently the expectation is that Ireland will face New Zealand in the quarter-finals while South Africa take on the host nation, but Scotland and Italy will hope to throw a curveball into the equation as they look to sneak into the knockout stages at the expense of one of their more big-game Test rivals.

However, before those pool matches there was this funny moment between Ireland and Springbok fans on the streets, with a tackle shield battle ensuing.

The Irish shield holder took on two South Africans and more than held his own as the crowd watched, with the clash taking place with a smile on their faces.

It’s great to see an atmosphere like this before a World Cup match and also the jovial way the physical tussle took place as both sets of fans awaited kick-off.

While Ireland are on a bye week and therefore not in action this weekend, South Africa return to action against Tonga on Sunday evening at Stade de Marseille.
