Prop brilliantly deals with an intoxicated man dancing on a car : PlanetRugby

Yes, the situation was as wild as it sounds. Cheetahs prop Schalk Ferreira brilliantly dealt with a man dancing on the hood of a women’s car in Bloemfontein.

Footage of the incident went viral in South Africa this week, with Ferreira applauded for his role in sorting the matter.

The incident

In a video posted by OFM, a man is stomping on a car hood in peak traffic, with the occupants of the car shouting and screaming at him.

Before the situation escalates too far, Ferreira steps in. He asked the man to get off the park before warning him of the consequences if he doesn’t.

Ferreira then grabbed the man by his leg and flung him to the ground.

This all unfolded when the prop was en route to drop his daughter off at school at seven in the morning.

The Cheetahs prop spoke on local Afrikaans radio station OFM to recount what had unfolded.

“I just watched him, and when he got on the car and started kicking, I read the family’s body language and saw the boy started crying,” Ferreria he told OFM.

“Then I decided to get out of my car and do something. At quarter past seven in the morning, you don’t expect this at all – for an intoxicated person to start banging on people’s car windows and to suddenly start jumping on this poor woman’s car.”

He explained that he knew the man was intoxicated and was glad that everything worked out.

“At least everything worked out well,” Ferreira added.

“I know if it was my wife and kids, my friends would have done the exact same thing. Families are important to us. You will do anything to defend them.”

Ferreira’s career

The 39-year-old prop joined the Cheetahs in 2021 and has previously played for the Southern Kings, Toulouse, Western Province and the Stormers.

He started his career at Western Province in 2005 but suffered a neck injury in a car crash, with an on-field injury soon after his return forcing him into retirement.

He did make his comeback in 2012 and has continued to play since.
