Yashasvi Jaiswal was closing in on a double century after a stunning knock as India finished day one of the second Test match in a dominant position against England at Vizag.
Jaiswal hit a stunning knock of 179, including 19 boundaries and five sixes as India finished the day 336 for six.
It was a memorable day for Shoaib Bashir who made his Test debut and claimed the key wicket of Rohit Sharma for his first scalp in the format.
England fought back and managed to break the partnerships, but they had no answer to Jaiswal’s innings.
India were dealt a double blow ahead of the second Test, with both KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja ruled out of the second Test with injuries sustained in the first.
England started the Test with a 1-0 series lead following their heroics at Hyderabad when they claimed a 28-run victory.
