PEOPLE rallied around over the weekend for rugby league legend Steve Pryce.

The 54-year-old was diagnosed with early-stage dementia back in 2022 and received an Alzheimer’s diagnosis last year.

His long-time friend, Chris Minchella, organised the 16-mile Saltaire to Skipton walk to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society and rally around Steve.

And the walk was a huge success.

Chris said: “I was hoping to get above £3,000 raised, at the moment we are looking like we’ll have £7000 when all money is in.”

There has been a massive show of support, with many people leaving touching messages on the fundraising page.

One said: “This is such an important cause- let’s hope we can make a difference to this horrible disease.”

Another said: “What a bloke, Hunslet legend and a true gentleman too, always my favourite player. Anything we can do for you we will be there.”

Steve started at West Bowling before playing professionally for York and Hunslet – he was inducted into the Hunslet Hall of Fame in September 2018.

He has also coached the Jamaican rugby league team.

Another comment on the fundraising page said: “Well done to all involved. A great cause for a great man.”
