Winnington Park pay the price for red card in Burnage hammering

WINNINGTON Park ended 2025 with a home humbling by Burnage.

Despite a few enforced changes, Park were looking to go into 2026 on the back of a win but Burnage put paid to that with a 48-17 success at Burrows Hill.

While it was 17-17 at the interval, the one-man advantage Burnage had enjoyed since the fourth minute took its toll on Park in the second half.

A red card was shown when Riewoldt Teabuge made a poor tackle on the Burnage fly-half, who was upended though was thankfully okay to continue in the game.

Park actually took the lead Dan Williams took a quickly penalty and set up an attack which went wide through the hands and wing Alex De Keyzer offloaded for Jack Williams to cross.

The visitors edged 10-5 ahead but Park were rewarded for their hard work when De Keyzer chipped the winger and regathered to score a classy try.

Although Burnage got their noses in front again, wing Teddie McCaffery stepped a defender to cross the line and Cameron Flanagan’s conversion ensured the sides turned round level.

Although Park defended well in the early part of the second half, Burnage pulled away with four tries in 11 minutes as tiredness set in and there was no way back.

Park: Jack Williams, Teddie McCaffery, Riewoldt Teabuge, Lewis Owen, Alex De Keyzer, Cameron Flanagan, Harry Sheard, Dan Williams, Matthew Treacy, Joshua Gibbins, Phil Lynch, Anthony Hopley, Conor Lapniewski, Tom King, Joel Gaidan, Frankie Davenport, Bruce McGrogan, Jack Fenner

Park enter the second half of the season in sixth place in Regional 2 North West.

Their next match is away to fifth-placed Widnes on Saturday, January 10, 2026.
