The first came towards the end of 2022 after scoring a brace of tries in a crucial victory over Toulouse Olympique that played a big role in keeping The Wire out of a relegation battle.

He returned midway through 2023 but suffered the same injury in the opposite knee in July 2024.

Wrench returned from that injury in May of this year and made 11 appearances during 2025, touching down for two tries.

‘The right step for me’ – Connor Wrench confirms shock retirement

In a statement confirming his decision, Wrench admitted he had been contemplating stepping away from the sport for some time and that doing so “feels like the right step.”

He will now be pursuing opportunities outside of the game as he takes the next step in his life.

“This hasn’t been an easy decision, and one I’ve been contemplating for a while, but it feels like the right step for me to make,” he said.

“I can’t thank everyone at the club enough for the part they’ve played in my journey.

“Representing my hometown club has meant a huge deal to me and I want to thank all my teammates, coaches, the staff and of course the fans for all their support over the years.

“The support I had through my injuries is something I’ll always appreciate too.

“I’m looking forward to a fresh challenge and wish the club every success in the future.”
