Two Australian players have been “touched inappropriately” during the Women’s Cricket World Cup in India.
The incident happened when they were approached by a motorcyclist on Thursday morning in Indore, the morning after Australia had beaten England by six wickets in their group stage match.

Cricket Australia said in a statement: “We can confirm two members of the Australian women’s team were approached and touched inappropriately by a motorcyclist while walking to a cafe in Indore. The matter was reported by team security to police, who are handling the matter.”
A suspect has since been arrested and a case opened against him for inappropriate behaviour and stalking.
Police officer Rajesh Dandotiya told the media: “We received a complaint from the Australian team security and immediately acted, registered a case and identified the accused within six hours.”

Dandotiya added that the 30-year-old man arrested, who has a criminal record, followed the players and approached them “for a bad touch” about 800 metres from their hotel.
On Saturday, Australia beat South Africa by seven wickets in Indore in their final World Cup group match to secure top spot in the table ahead of next week’s semi-finals.
Alana King finished with figures of 7-18, a Women’s World Cup record, as South Africa were bowled out for 97 in 24 hours. Beth Mooney (42) and Georgia Voll (38*) top-scored in reply as Australia reached their target of 98 within 17 overs.

King was later named player of the match and said: “You always love wickets to your name but I love to play lots of different roles. I am happy to play whatever presents itself to me for Australia.
“There is natural variation in the pitch but I am always trying to get as much turn and rip as possible. I can only control how they come out of my hand. I am going to stick to what is working for me in the semi-finals and we will go from there.”
The result means Australia will play co-hosts India in the semi-finals on Thursday, while on Wednesday South Africa will play England, who face New Zealand in their final group match on Sunday.

Australia are favourites to win the tournament, with the final on November 2 in Mumbai. They boast seven 50-over world titles and six T20 World Cup trophies, with only one major ICC final between 2010 and 2024 contested without them.
