The First and Second XI matches between Taunton Deane and Taunton St Andrews for the Brice -Nelson Trophy that were due to be played last weekend both sadly fell foul of the weather.

However the match between Taunton Deane Under 16s and their Taunton St Andrews counterparts was able to be played on Friday evening, resulting in a victory for the Saints who therefore retain the trophy for another year.

The Under 16s match between the two sides was a double header as it was also a fixture in the 100 Ball Somerset Smash, organised by the Somerset Cricket Foundation. The game was played at Blagdon Hill CC and everyone involved is most grateful to all those who helped in anyway towards getting the game staged.

The Saints captain Noah Jones won the toss and after choosing to bat first, saw his side post 169 for two from their 100 balls.Nick Watson hit 50 off 35 balls with five 4s and three 6s and Danny Woolcott made 50 from 32 deliveries with three 4s and four 6s, before they both retired, while Barney Mack made an unbeaten 27 from 20 balls with five 4s.

When Taunton Deane batted they lost early wickets  before James Salt with 26 from 25 balls with one 4 and two sixes and Megan Driskel with 23 from 27 balls with four 4s both resisted well, but in the end the hosts were all out for 93.

Pick of the Saints bowlers was Nile Pritchard who claimed three wickets while Brendon Cole took two.

Saints also have to play against Taunton CC and Bridgwater CC who are both in their 100 Ball  Somerset Smash group.

This weekend sees the start of Saturday League cricket and this season will see Taunton St Andrews fielding four senior sides. Saints First XI who compete in Premier One of the West of England Premier League open their account with an away match against Potterne. The Second XI are at home to Castle Cary in the Premier Division of the Somerset Cricket League. Saints A XI host Crewkerne in Division Four of the Somerset Cricket League while Saints B XI are away at Hunstspill and District Seconds in Division Seven of the Somerset Cricket League.

Before that on Friday evening Saints Under 13s Wyverns are at home to Ilminster, while TSA Under 13s travel away to face Wembdon.

Three of Saints Junior teams are in action on Sunday. The Under 11s travel to play their Over Stowey counterparts, the Under 15s are at home to Wellington,  while the Saints Under 15s B side are away to Taunton Sapphires.
