Rawdon’s faltering Aire-Wharfe form continues as Ilkley cruise to victory

RAWDON, who were looking nailed on for promotion a month ago, have now lost three of their last four matches in Aire-Wharfe League Division One.

Their latest setback came at home to Kirkstall Educational, who sent the home side in and restricted them to 219-8.

Skipper Jake Hodges made a 16-ball duck, but the card was solid after that with the next five batters all making double figures.

Joe Smith (31) and Andrew Duckworth (40) put on 64 for the fourth wicket, and James Doidge (38no) then added 56 for the ninth wicket with James Burnett (25) to take Rawdon over 200.

However, Kirkstall lost both openers for ducks before they recovered to win by four wickets with five overs remaining and are now only 11 points behind Rawdon in third, with the latter at leaders Bilton on Saturday.

Ilkley are 14 points behind Rawdon in fourth after a comfortable afternoon at home to Bardsey, who could only score 145 after opting to bat, Tom Rowell taking 4-33, Rob Spivey 4-28 and Nick Schofield 2-19.

The hosts were 35-3, but stands of 49 and 62 unbroken ensured that there were no further alarms, opener Will Spivey seeing the job through with 52 not out.

Alex Bailey (20) and particularly Schofield (45no) helped him as Ilkley won by six wickets in the 33rd over ahead of a trip to Kirkstall.

Innings of the day in the league, and probably in Yorkshire, came from Menston’s overseas Fraser Oates.

He made 225 not out off 150 balls, including 34 fours and six sixes, as he took toll of visitors Follifoot’s weak attack as Menston scored 408-3 having won the toss.

Opener Christian Wood (40) added 87 with Oates, but the real partnership was the 251 for the third wicket between Oates and JH Johnson, who scored 115 from 71 deliveries, including 17 fours and three sixes.

Follifoot were then rolled over for 111, giving Menston a 297-run victory, Oates completing a superb match with 5-31.

Hosts Olicanian were no match for Bilton, the home side scoring 188 after winning the toss, keeper Aditya Ahmed (28) and Haroon Mahmood (34) putting on 57 for the second wicket, Sam Pilling (41) and Ethan McLelland (23) doing well in the middle order.

That target was no issue for Bilton, however, who won by seven wickets after 24 overs.

Guiseley are now 52 points from safety after a home defeat against Bolton Villas, who are immediately above them.

Sent in, Guiseley made a great start via keeper Viraj Bhosale (66) and Rob Thomas (28), who put on 98, but they collapsed from 102-1 to 108-4 and lost two more wickets with the score on 131.

It was only an unbroken last-wicket stand of 43 between Samvit Muley (19no) and Max Hamilton (28no) that got Guiseley over 200, but Villas timed their reply nicely, winning by three wickets in the 48th over, Aniket Rana taking 3-70.

Otley and Burley continue to set the pace in the Premier Division, and both won again.

Pool chose to bat at home to Otley, but could only score 115, having been 93-3, Steve Brown taking 6-39 and James Davies 3-5.

Otley did not find things easy after tea either, but captain Alex Atkinson (45) and Damon Reeve (25) had given them some money in the bank with a partnership of 62 for the second wicket.

However, they went from 68-1 to 80-6 before Andrew Rhodes (31no) saw them to a three-wicket victory in the 28th over, despite Charlie Bell taking 5-39.

Burley chose to bat at Steeton and made a middling 172, Nick Brook (30) and Charles Davy (35) putting on 44 for the fifth wicket after opener Jason Wright had scored 36.

Steeton were 34-1 but lost a shutter of batters to be 62-7 before getting to 132, Mack Hall (5-29), Wright (3-39) and Jonathan Postle (2-24) sharing the wickets between them.

Addingham went run crazy at North Leeds, scoring 358-7 after being sent in, the highlight being an opening stand of 160 by Jacob Parker (75) and Ricky Palacio (120).

Parker faced 72 balls and hit 11 fours and two sixes, while Palacio had 123 deliveries and hit 12 fours and four sixes.

Nick Farrell (42), who put on 71 with Palacio, and keeper Ben Brearley (34no) ensured that there was no let up and North Leeds were bowled out for 169 (Sreyas Valsaraj 101), Palacio taking 4-17 from eight overs, the other six bowlers getting a wicket each.

Horsforth Hall Park were involved in a thriller at Roberts Park, sending Saltaire in and seeing them make 202, Charles Greatbatch (7-50) taking wickets at either end of the innings.

Hall Park were then under the pump at 37-3, but Stephen Wilkinson (70) and skipper Andrew Bairstow (26) put on 67 for the fourth wicket.

Partnerships of 32 and 30 involving Priyank Koli (38) then took the visitors close but they lost their last two wickets at 200 to fall three runs short of victory.

Green Lane’s chances of promotion from Division Two have diminished after a 23-run defeat at second-placed Old Leodiensians, who made 248 after being asked to bat.

Benn Hallas (3-41), Max Lee (2-18) and Ben Roberts (2-39) got among the wickets, and a strong middle order then gave Green Lane a sniff of victory.

Lee (17) and Daniel Frost (37) put on 55 for the second wicket before keeper Phil Atkinson (45) added 92 with Neil Britton for the fourth.

However, they went from 152-3 to 163-7 before Britton found another good ally in Michael Ellis (18no), who put on 62 unbroken before running out of overs at 225-7.

Britton’s runs came off 123 deliveries and contained seven fours and two sixes.

Green Lane are now 20 points behind Leos with three weekends left, but they haven’t the most testing run-in, facing Shadwell and two of the bottom three in Rodley and Skipton.

Horsforth put distance between themselves and the re-election places with a seven-wicket victory at second-from-bottom Skipton.

The Sandylanders scored 132 after winning the toss, Matthew Cordingley taking 4-14, and Horsforth passed that target in the 37th over, Tom Colley playing a captain’s knock with 89.

The opener faced 117 balls and hit 16 fours, adding 89 with Alex Wiggan (27no) before being dismissed.

Leeds Modernians drew level on points with Skipton after trouncing Rodley, who could only make 63 after winning the toss, Siddhant Gola (6-27) and Greg McManus (4-27) forming a potent new-ball duo.

Mods then won by eight wickets in the 11th over for only their second win of the season.
