Powell hits record-breaking unbeaten 233 in Burghill seconds win

BURGHILL, Tillington and Weobley seconds broke the club’s record books with a formidable total of 495-2 on their way to a convincing win at Hanley Castle & Upton.

Alex Powell’s record-breaking 233 not out and his 370-run second wicket partnership with AJ Morris were also club records.

Coming together at 47 for 1, the two youngsters showcased an exhilarating display of partnership building.

Powell’s 233 not out came off 144 balls, with 32 fours and 8 sixes. AJ scored his maiden senior century with a stylish 150 in 98 balls, including 18 fours and 4 sixes.

A demoralized home team was then skittled out for 74 in 16.4 overs. Not content with his maiden century, AJ bagged 4-10 with his overs. Rob Garrard also contributed with 3-14.

Burghill firsts won by a single wicket in a nerve-racking finish against Droitwich Spa.

The Burgs had the away team in deep trouble at 88 for 7. But chiefly through an aggressive century by Max Young (100), which included 16 fours and 3 sixes, Droitwich Spa rallied to 181 all out in 43.2 overs.

Captain Barney Morgan finished with 4-82, Dashawn Norville 3-47 and Afaq Khalid 2-37.

After losing three early wickets in reply Sabil Sarmad (25) and Owen Morgan (35) salvaged the score to 125-4.

However, the hosts slumped to 139-8 and then 155-9, still 27 runs short of the victory target.

Jake Hutson salvaged the game with 76 runs to his name, while number 11 JD Lewis was 1 not out off 10 very important balls faced.

Meanwhile, Eastnor were in an unforgiving mood as they dismantled Harvington to win by nine wickets.

Josh Element (4-56) and Lucas Gatherer (3-32) shared the new ball and wasted little time in asserting control.

Harvington found themselves 20-4, and from there, the innings never recovered. The Gatherer brothers — Lucas and Jonty — shared the workload with Element admirably, varying their lengths and lines cleverly.

In a match of few errors, Kabir Singh’s (2-1) brief intervention with the ball was no less effective; his spell lasting just eight deliveries but yielding two wickets, the final nails in the coffin as Harvington finished on 106 all out in 20.2 overs.

The run chase, was made to look simple as Josh Emery batted with a freedom befitting the modest target, striking 61 with both power and timing, while Simon Keyte (26no) played a measured supporting role. The chase was completed in just 9.5 overs.
