The Auld Greys emerged victorious in both encounters, moving up to third place in the Northern Cricket League.

In the cup match, Kendal’s professional Evan Williams showcased his batting prowess, scoring an impressive unbeaten 117 runs as the home side posted a total of 201 for nine in their innings.

The innings began positively for Kendal, who found themselves at 56 for two.

However, the momentum shifted dramatically when Rainford’s John Dotters claimed a hat-trick, leaving Kendal reeling at 56 for five.

Despite the early setbacks, a vital partnership of 68 runs between Williams and Louis Backhouse steadied the ship.

Williams’ innings, which included five fours and eight sixes, was pivotal in helping Kendal recover from a precarious position of 133 for nine.

In response, Rainford struggled to chase down the target.

They began their innings with a promising opening partnership of 33 runs, but Kendal’s bowlers quickly asserted control.

Freddie Fallows took the crucial wicket of M Bailey, caught behind by Finlay Richardson, while Chris Miller dismissed P Farrar, also caught behind.

Kendal’s bowlers maintained relentless pressure, with Williams contributing with a catch and bowl to dismiss J Login, leaving Rainford at 66 for three.

Chris Miller continued to excel, trapping S Harsh LBW, further tightening Kendal’s grip on the match.

Rainford’s John Dotters and W Threlkeld attempted to resist with a partnership of 50 runs, but their efforts were thwarted when Backhouse claimed the wicket of Dotters.

Once Dotters was dismissed, Kendal’s bowlers swiftly dismantled the lower order, with Fallows claiming three wickets and Backhouse finishing with figures of four for 28.

Rainford was ultimately bowled out for 142 runs in 36 overs.

Earlier in the weekend, Kendal’s league match against Settle saw them secure a convincing seven-wicket victory.

Settle was bowled out for 76 runs.

In reply, Kendal’s batting was anchored by Sam Dutton, who remained unbeaten on 33.

Contributions from Freddie Fallows and James Bowman, scoring 19 and 11 runs respectively, helped the home side reach 79 for four in just over 20 overs.

Looking ahead, Kendal will be keen to maintain their momentum as they prepare to face Longridge at home on Saturday.
