The sessions, which will be one hour long, will kick off at 7 pm at the rugby club on Castle Road.

The initiative is designed to provide a “fun, sociable, healthy” activity for adults, irrespective of their prior rugby experience.

Each game will last 14 minutes, split into two halves of seven minutes.

Matches will be played with seven players on each team, and every team must have at least two women on the field at all times.

The event is the brainchild of Mat Lane, 41, a sales and marketing manager from Salisbury, who used to play rugby for Exeter Chiefs.

Mat Lane used to play for Exeter Chiefs (Image: Mat lane) Ex-player Mat, said: “I love my rugby and I wanted to put something on for people that just want to have fun with friends while playing the sport they love.

“I want to emphasise the non-competitive, recreational nature of the league, and it will be no contact, no pressure, just energy, fresh air, and a good reason for a well-earned pint after work.

“The rugby club want to drive their non-contact sports as well, so this works well for them. They have been great and really keen to host my idea.”

After the game, participants can socialise and enjoy food and drinks at the club’s facilities.

The final night of the league, August 12, will feature an awards ceremony.

Individuals who cannot form a full team are encouraged to contact Mat for assistance and he will try and get you in anyway.
