ak Crawley says he has not given “too much thought” to England players’ looming club-versus-country dilemma, insisting he will deal with any clashes as and when they occur.
Talks over the upcoming round of central contracts are ongoing, with the ECB hoping to tie down their leading stars by offering the security of multi-years deals for the first time.
However, according to reports, a number of players could be set to reject the offer and instead sign the usual 12-month contracts in a bid to keep their T20 franchise options open.
Test opener Crawley is not among the multi-format stars in line for longer deals, with today’s ODI against Ireland set to be just his fourth white-ball international.
However, the 25-year-old’s global stock is on the rise after a superb Ashes series, and he is keen to force his way onto the winter’s white-ball tour to the Caribbean, which could mean missing the majority of a planned stint at Australia’s Big Bash League, before the Test side tour India in January.
“I just try to stay in my lane with that sort of stuff, take any opportunity that comes at that time,” Crawley said. “That’s something that will crop up in the future, but I haven’t given it too much thought.
“I’m very keen [to play more white-ball for England]. It would be cool one day to play in a World Cup.”
