Cumbria County Cricket Club lost their opening three-day match by nine wickets.
The team faced a tough start in the Durrant Cricket National County Championship against Bedfordshire at Dunstable CC.
The encounter was marked by an opening session that saw Cumbria crumble after losing the toss.

Bedfordshire’s decision to field first proved to be a masterstroke, as they bowled Cumbria out for a mere 81 runs in 26.1 overs.
Cumbria’s innings was characterised by frequent dismissals, with several batsmen either bowled cleanly or caught behind.

The only wicket to fall was that of Arush Buchake, caught at first slip by Ben Walkden off Josh Brown’s bowling.
On the second day, Bedfordshire’s Jake Tarling and Oli Soames capitalised on the favourable conditions, building a formidable partnership of 315 runs off 467 balls.
Soames’s impressive innings of 180 off 227 balls came to an end when he was caught by Matthew Sempill at long-on.
Two overs later, Tarling was dismissed for 148, caught behind.

In their second innings, Cumbria put up a more resilient performance, with three partnerships laying a solid foundation.
Walkden, Reece Irving, Max Winskill, and Sempill all contributed to the score, but it was the partnership between Sempill and Ben Davidson that stood out, adding 112 off 207 balls.
Davidson was eventually dismissed for 37 off 107 balls, caught at short leg off Matt Coles.
The day’s play was interrupted by a thunderstorm, forcing the umpires to end play early.
On the final day, Sempill continued his fine form, reaching his century in 166 balls.
He and Postlethwaite put up a partnership of 63 off 87 balls before the latter was bowled by Oscar Phillips.

Cumbria’s innings ended on 361 all out from 106.4 overs, with Sempill scoring a commendable 161 off 258 balls.
Bedfordshire required just 68 runs to win, which they achieved for the loss of one wicket.
Cumbria will look to bounce back in their upcoming matches against Hertfordshire and Northumberland on July 27 to 29 and August 17 to 19, respectively.
They will also participate in the Super 12s of NCCA’s T20 competition on August 3 at Sawston and Babraham CC, Cambridgeshire.
Their two matches, against Cambridgeshire and Northumberland, will start at 1pm and 4.30pm.
