IN A THRILLING turn of events, Burghill, Tillington & Weobley secured an unexpected victory against the league leaders Bewdley.
Bewdley had won all eight of their fixtures this year coming into the game and were brimming with confidence.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat. The wicket gave hardly any lateral or seam movement at the outset when the opening quicks operated.
At 71-1, Bewdley were batting sensibly and playing the long game. However, Barney Morgan (3-50) and Afaq Khalid (2-46) both bowled 15 unchanged overs to stifle the run rate and force the batsmen to play false shots.
Six wickets went down for 52 runs, and at 123-7, the Burgs were bossing the game. Jack Mills, with a breezy 41 not out from 43 balls, and Kiwi overseas player Sam Wilson, hit 34 not out from 19 balls, brought some respectability to the score and gave the Bewdley bowlers something to bowl at. The away side finished on 201-8 after their 50 overs.
The home supporters were quietly confident that the Burgs could score the required runs to win the match. But Bewdley’s opening quicks, Michael Hayes (3-62) and Sam Wilson (2-44), had other ideas and ripped through the home side’s top order.

At 55-5 after 10 overs, Bewdley had taken control of the match and were favourites to continue their winning run.
Then, Jake Kinderman (41) joined Barney Morgan, and together they put on a match-winning 110-run partnership for the sixth wicket. Kinderman curbed his natural aggressive instincts and gave a salutary lesson for batsmen.
At the other end, Morgan (93 not out), with 14 fours and 3 sixes, led the way for his side. His exquisite cover drives and cuts, and anything short being deposited in the adjoining fields, were breathtaking.
Burghill reached the winning target in 37 overs for a four-wicket victory.

Meanwhile, Bartestree & Lugwardine suffered a heavy six-wicket defeat at Netherton.
The Herefordshire side won the toss and elected to bat. The decision looked a strong one as openers George Godsall (59) and Saminda Fernando (27) put on a stand of 80 for the opening wicket.
However, wickets began to tumble and Bartestree found themselves all out for 153 off 32.3 overs. Netherton reached the target with ease and finished on 154-4 off 22.2 overs.
