Bartestree & Lugwardine need to beat rivals to avoid drop

BARTESTREE & LUGWARDINE need to beat their Herefordshire rivals on the final day of the Worcestershire County League Division 1 campaign to stand a chance of survival.

Unavailability of too many key players meant that Bartestree skipper Ryan Trattell was fielding a weakened side.

After putting their hosts into bat sixth placed Droitwich quickly amassed runs with opener Harry Butler scoring 84 as they reached 141-2.

Lincoln Kellett contributed with an unbeaten 83 as Droitwich set a formidable target of 304-5 off their allotted 50 overs.

Bartestree struggled with that bat and an unbeaten 41 for Sam Pratley was the top score as the visitors were bowled out for 135.

Meanwhile, Bartestree & Lugwardine seconds ran out six-wicket winners against Fownhope Strollers as Elliot Gale celebrated his first half-century in senior cricket following a flawless unbeaten innings.

Burghill, Tillington and Weobley sent a warning to Herefordshire rivals following comprehensive 108-run victory over Halesowen seconds.

After wet weather dominated the weather forecast throughout the past week, it was no surprise when the visitors won the toss and asked the Burgs to bat first at the PAF Cricket Ground.

An early wicket put the hosts on the back foot, but then Jake Hutson took centre stage, treating everyone to a display of entertaining batting.

Hutson struck 66 from just 43 balls, peppering the boundary with 7 fours and 5 booming sixes. There was solid support from Barney Morgan (41) and a handy 28 from Sabil Sarmad.

However, Burghill left six overs on the table, finishing on 227 all out in 44 overs, leaving the door open for their opponents.

In reply, Burghill’s bowlers were on top form against a full-strength Halesowen side. It took the home side 34 overs to bowl the visitors out for 119. The talented George Stevenson led the way and claimed 4-29. JD Lewis and Dashawn Norville picked up two wickets each, maintaining relentless pressure throughout.

Wicket keeper Jake Hutson also contributed towards the attack with two catches and some outstanding leg side takes, which helped confirm his status as club favourite glove man.

The impressive team effort from Burghill keeps them in fifth place in the league.

Brockhampton are heading the other way out of Division One and have confirmed their promotion back to the Worcestershire County League Premier Division.

Brockhampton were in a celebratory mood as they took a seven-wicket win against Hagley at the weekend.
