A POPULAR junior rugby league competition within the town has been revived – and there’s a big prize on the line.
For the first time in around a decade, six of the town’s community clubs will contest the Warrington Cup in a trio of different age groups.

Matches are already underway in the under 14s, under 16s and under 18s age groups with teams entered by Crosfields, Woolston Rovers, Latchford Albion Giants, Bank Quay Bulls, Rylands Sharks and Culcheth Eagles.
And the culmination of those efforts will be the finals day, which is due to take place on the biggest stage Warrington can offer at The Halliwell Jones Stadium on Saturday, October 18.

“I’ve been involved in junior rugby for 10 years now and I can’t recall the town being in the position it’s in today with a team or two teams at each age group at all clubs.

“I thought it would be a great opportunity to re-create a Warrington Cup trophy, which creates more games for the kids’ development, rivalry but also a fantastic opportunity to play at The Halliwell Jones Stadium which is the ultimate reward.
“We’re two weeks into fixtures and the games have all been competitive and tough but exactly what rugby is about and that’s great sportsmanship between all clubs.”
The hope is that the return of the cup competition will become annual, but organisers are looking for sponsors to come on board and lend their support.
Anybody interested in sponsoring or supporting the competition should contact David Manfredi by emailing Warringtoncupenquiries@gmail.com.
