12-year-old cricket star named sportswear brand ambassador

A 12-year-old cricketer from West Berkshire has been named the latest ambassador for a sportswear brand.

Mya Panchal, a student at St Gabriel’s School in Newbury who plays for Falkland Cricket Club, has joined Maiden Cricket as part of its ambassador programme promoting girls’ participation in the sport.

Maiden Cricket was launched last year by teenage sisters Honor and Cat Black, who wanted to create comfortable, functional, and stylish cricket clothing designed specifically for girls.

Mya Panchal said: “One of the main reasons I started playing cricket was to help put girls’ cricket on the map and encourage more girls to take up hard ball cricket.

“As a Maiden ambassador, I want to grow the visibility and impact of the sport, inspire young girls to believe they belong on the pitch, and help create a supportive, inclusive environment where they feel confident, empowered, and excited to play.

“Through this role, I hope to be a voice for positive change and a role model for the next generation of female cricketers.”

The ambassador programme is open to female players aged eight and above who are passionate about promoting inclusivity and growing girls’ cricket in schools, universities, and clubs.

Hundreds of applications were received from across the UK.

Cat Black, co-founder of Maiden Cricket, said: “At Maiden, we’re all about championing girls’ cricket by highlighting what a fantastic sport it is for building confidence and team spirit.

“We’ve already built a great community to help share our mission and it’s awesome to have Mya join the crew.”
