Springbok flyer signs new contract at the Bulls : PlanetRugby

The Bulls have announced that Springbok flyer Kurt-Lee Arendse has put pen to paper on a new long-term contract with the United Rugby Championship outfit.

The 26-year-old’s new deal will keep him at the Pretoria-based side until at least June 2026.

Arendse has been a member of the Bulls family since August 2020, and since joining them, he has become a vital member of their senior side, making 31 Bulls appearances during that period in all competitions.

Made his Test debut in 2022

A former South Africa Sevens representative, he made his debut for the Springboks against Wales in Bloemfontein last year and has gone on to make seven Test appearances.

Arendse has won numerous tournaments with the Blitzboks on the World Rugby’s Sevens Series and has enjoyed success with the Bulls in Super Rugby Unlocked and in the Currie Cup competitions.

Equally, at home on the wing or at full-back, Arendse was also one of the Bulls’ star performers during the inaugural United Rugby Championship, where they finished as runners-up to the Stormers.

Bulls chief executive Edgar Rathbone is happy that Arendse has opted to stay in Pretoria and congratulated the player on his contract extension.

“We are extremely proud of the incredible work that Kurt-Lee has put into his time here in Pretoria,” he said. “In such a short space, he has become an integral part of our roster and a fan favourite for all those who frequent Loftus for entertaining rugby.

“We are grateful that he worked with us to ensure that his extension was a possibility because he is an internationally acclaimed rugby star, so naturally, we had to fend off numerous interests vying for his signature, both local and abroad,”

“To have him commit to a further three seasons is a big plus for us as an organisation and cements our home as the place for all international stars.

“We have the confidence in the world that he will continue to add value to what we offer, and in turn, we will continue to help him develop into this rugby star that he is destined to be. We wish him more success, and ofcourse we will be alongside him throughout his journey.”

Jake White delighted by the news

The Bulls director of rugby, Jake White, echoed Rathbone’s sentiments and said: “One of the things that I am fortunate about is that I have a long-term deal with the Vodacom Bulls and I have a lot of players who have committed to long-term deals too.

“So to have Kurt-Lee join the likes of Canan [Moodie], Johan [Goosen], and a very long list of great players who have also committed their time to this work we are doing here is fantastic.”
