KLM Dutch Open: Adrian Meronk looking to double up on return to Europe

Mainland Europe remains the focal point of the DP World Tour, and this week the Bernardus Golf Club at Croimvoirt hosts the Dutch Open for the third straight year.

At 7,445 yards in length this par 72 course is flat and exposed with generous fairways, and has a links-like set-up despite being inland. With Bermuda grass fairways and rough and Bentgrass greens, it is not difficult to shoot low here and we can expect good scores.

Clear joint favourites at 12/1 this week are Victor Perez, the defending champion, and Adrian Meronk, who finished third here in 2022, both of whom journey back to Europe from last week’s USPGA Championship.

Perez finished twelfth last week and Meronk fortieth. Both played solid golf, with Perez delivering a spectacular front nine on Sunday, before slipping back to finish on level par.

Meronk alternated poor scores with under-par rounds, with Sunday’s two-under 68 meaning he saved the best for last, and of the two Europeans, I prefer the tall Pole on this type of course now.

Suggested bet: Adrian Meronk each-way in the KLM Dutch Open

At 20/1 Swedish star Alexander Bjork is in good form at present but does not win very often, while big-hitting Jordan Smith and Danish youngster Rasmus Hojgaard both failed to make the cut at Oak Hill last week and might be expected to struggle to raise their game sufficiently to feature this weekend

Others to consider

The level of golfers this week appears to be much of a muchness, with a bunch of players at the same level with similar records on tour. But if we look further down the betting market we can find some value, dependent on inconsistent golfers being on it this week. I know that it is a common trait of the DP World Tour, but here goes.

Guido Migliozzi is a strong driver who score very low on a good week, and the Bernadus course suits his style of game. He is trying to elevate his performance at present, so that he can compete for a European Ryder Cup spot, so at 50/1 this week he is worth a punt.

Suggested bet: Guido Migliozzi each-way in the KLM Dutch Open

Sebastian Soderberg placed in this tournament in 2022 and has been in contention on the tour in recent times. It’s true that he does not win much, but this is a good type of a course to go well on, and the 66/1 available may prove to be decent each-way value.

Simon Forrstrom won last time out on tour and yet can be found in the market at 80/1, perhaps because the bookies appreciate that it is very difficult to win two tournaments in a row.

We round off with Pablo Larrazabal, who has won on tour in recent months and has several tournament wins on all types of courses throughout his career.

Although not quite good enough to make the USPGA Tour, he can contend in this lower grade, and at 55/1 he too may prove to be a value pick if he can extend a going week into Sunday afternoon.

Suggested bet: Pablo Larrazabal each-way in the KLM Dutch Open
