Isle of Wight cricket teams were in action over the weekend as one Ventnor bowler dispatched their opponents’s top four cheaply to secure the Island team a win in the Southern Premier League.
Archie Lucy made sure Ventnor got off to a flying start, taking out the top order for single figures, leaving rivals Fair Oak 23 for five.

A spirited fightback from the middle order saved faced for the visitors, but Fair Oak limped to the end of allotted 50 overs, finishing with nine wickets down and 195 runs to show for it.
Archie Lucy took six wickets for just 24 runs in his 10 overs.

Despite Ventnor opener Joshua Carpenter getting out for a golden duck, Ventnor’s batting display was calm, patient and accumulating.
Dineth Thimodya made 98 runs before he was bowled, and the rest of the time made up the rest with cameo innings – Ventnor getting over the line with five wickets and 20 overs to spare.
Despite a valiant 30 from Kevin Cooper and a hundred from Australian Ethan Short, Ventnor’s second XI failed to defend their 231 as Lymington went well to knock off the required runs in 40 overs and one ball.

Although Ashley Goldsmith scored 54 and Tom Durman scored 41, Ryde didn’t defend their total either as Bramshaw made the target of 181 with wickets to spare – Ian Hales taking the most of the Ryde bowlers with four for 39 runs.
Shanklin and Godshill cleared out Solent Rangers for 102, with Ben White, Matthew Lambourne and Harry Moore taking three wickets each – the Island side then knocked off the target easily, with Harry Collier carrying his bat for 48.
In the Island league, Northwood batter David Chapman’s 91 wasn’t enough to keep Newport from getting over the line, with Thomas Dye scoring 93 and Adam Wilson 38 – Kerry Rice took three wickets for the central side, while C Howles took three for Northwood.
Strong performances from Ollie Stubbings, scoring 54, Rob Holcroft with 48 and Mark Hartnel with 35 saw St Helens beat Ventnor’s third XI despite Mark Price’s 55 – Jackson Parker took three wickets for Ventnor.

Newport’s second team managed to bowl Arreton out cheaply, with O Owens taking four wickets for 38 runs.
L Vanassache top scored for Arreton with 56, while for Newport, S Chanila Ramachandra scored 68 and H Takel made 44.
Martyn Richards’ century for Northwood, supported by Nick Stafford’s 43, Max Rivlin’s 58 and Mark Scudder’s 30 saw the team post an unassailable total for Shanklin and Godshill’s third team, despite M Bartlet’s 53 and T Lockey’s 30 – Steve Lewis the pick of the economical bowling attack with four wickets for 25 runs.
In the women’s league, Lucy Taylor took four wickets for 17 runs as Newport were restricted to 99 in their allotted 20 overs.

But a brilliant bowling performance saw the team restrict Ryde further to 76, Lara Crouch taking three wickets for ten runs.
