Former England cricketer to be special guest at festive walk and talk

The day will begin with a relaxed morning walk followed by a hearty Yorkshire pudding wrap lunch, mince pies, and a festive hot drink or two.

Organisers said it’s all about taking time to get outdoors, chat, and share stories in good company.

This year’s special guest is Ashley Giles, former England cricketer and current CEO of Worcestershire County Cricket Club.

Over his long and distinguished career, Mr Giles represented England in 54 test matches and 62 one-day internationals.

He played a key role in England’s unforgettable 2005 Ashes victory.

Since retiring, he has taken on senior leadership roles within English cricket, including Warwickshire and England men’s team director.

Following the community walk and lunch, Mr Giles will take part in an informal Q&A session, sharing insights from his playing days, his journey into leadership, and the importance of initiatives like Walkers and Talkers in building stronger, healthier communities.

Mr Giles said: “I’m delighted to be the guest speaker at the Walkers & Talkers Christmas special.

“Worcestershire County Cricket Club has always prided itself on being at the heart of the community, and the Foundation’s work perfectly reflects that spirit.

“Supporting initiatives that bring people together, encourage conversation, and strengthen wellbeing is something I’m incredibly proud of.

“I’m looking forward to meeting everyone, supporting the Foundation’s fantastic efforts, and sharing a few tales from my cricketing career – some serious, some less so.”
