A barnstorming 40 not out innings for Jin Josephs and a solid team performance saw Dungannon past Ardent Blues V’s on Saturday (May 10) into the next round of the NCU Development Cup.

Winning the toss, Ardent Blues decided to bat first on a glorious Mallusk summer’s day.

Mirza Baig drew first blood, dismissing S. Sathyan before going on to claim the wickets of Thomas for 5, Varghese for a duck and Menon for 2 in a blisteringly fast bowling display.

Jin Joseph took 3 wickets, including a thrilling one-handed diving catch from Dan Gillespie, while Gillespie took the wicket of Hari with a catch from Prasul Parapuravan. Some sharp fielding led to 2 run outs as Ardent Blues finished on 108 all out.

Dan Gilespie and James Eakin opened the batting for Dungannon as they chased a target of 109. Gillespie started Dungannon’s innings with 4 before losing his wicket to Varghese and being replaced with Josephs.

Eakin was caught and bowled for 3 while Jin Josephs got his innings started, eventually producing 40 not out, with 3 boundaries and a thunderous 6.

Joshua Ferguson combined fruitfully for 26 with 2 fours before his wicket fell, and Mohammed Shareef contributed 11 before Varghese took his wicket for a hat-trick.

Mirza Baig finished out the innings with 2 not out as Dungannon ran out comfortable victors by 6 wickets on 109/4 with 10 overs to spare.

The result sees Dungannon safely into the first-round proper on May 31 and open their league campaign on Saturday, May 17, at home to Victoria IV’s.

Dungannon Cricket Club would like to thank their sponsors Used Cars NI for their continued, generous support.
